Drilling & Completion Fluids are one of the backbones of drilling operations and serve a range of purposes. From controlling pressure to the transmittal of data, properly designed and correctly maintained drilling fluids could bring superior drilling-fluid performance resulting in cost savings, cost avoidance and lower total well cost. Drilling fluids are added to the wellbore to facilitate the drilling process. By controlling pressure, stabilizing exposed rocks, providing buoyancy and reducing friction, such fluids ensure drilling success.
Selection of drilling fluid mainly depends on the type of formation and the borehole depth. The various kinds of drilling fluid normally used are water, bentonite mud, cutting oil, and polymers (both water-based and mud-based).
